Foster Care
The Florida Keys SPCA foster program is a cooperative effort on the part of our shelter and generous volunteers, for the purpose of providing specialized care to animals that are not yet quite prepared for the adoption process or shelter environment. Orphaned kittens and puppies whose immune systems are not yet fully developed or were relinquished before they were fully weaned and animals that require special care are placed into foster homes.
Hurricane season requires a very special foster need for all our animals. Because our facility is so unsafe, we place all our animals into foster homes whenever a hurricane threatens the Florida Keys. We ask that you keep your foster animals safe until the storm has passed. Should you decide to evacuate, you must be willing and able to evacuate with the foster animal and return him/her to the Florida Keys SPCA after the storm has passed.
When you foster an animal, we provide you with guidance and all the essentials for their care. You provide the love!
